During global warming rappelling into a crevasse to the bottom of a glacier

From a geological point of view, it is interesting rappelling to the bottom of a glacier. Each meter further down, ages of glacial history reveal in all kind of blue hues. Italy longest glacier, the Adamello glacier, will be melted completely in 2070 due to global warming.

Tent on top of a mountain and the story of freedom

The latest sunbeams of the day hit the little piles of rock around my historical 35 year old yellow Lafuma tent. While the last sounds in the valley fade away, I realize that I will be alone on the summit of this peak in the Italian Dolomites. But, from a historical perspective I am not alone. At the beginning of the twentieth century this place was the core of a heavy combat zone. That is what the little bench and the crucifix symbolize: freedom and commemoration.

Just left

We just left the Tierbergli mountain cabin in Switzerland to continue our backcountry ski touring journey with a next stop at the Trift mountain cabin. Two days ago, a snow storm forced us to interrupt our 10 day ski tour. All locals left, we stayed. While the last storm clouds are blowing away, we are marking our tracks in fresh powder.

After having climbed a small couloir, we finally mark our traces while skiing a sixteen hundred meter steep drop in stable snow conditions with good powder.

Reinhold Messner, the first man that conquered all eight thousand meter peaks without oxygen, renamed his home mountains, the Geislerspitzen, into the dragon mountains. With some imagination one can see in this mountain ridge and cloud the tail of a dragon. So, where is the head of the dragon?
